In oil cooled transformer it is necessary to observe and control the temperature of Transformers for continues and uninterrupted power supply, For these Oil Temperature Indicator & Winding Temperature Indicator (OTI & WTI) must be present in Transformer while they are in services.
The Winding is the component with highest temperature within the transformer and its temperature also increase as load increases on transformer , Thus to have total control of the temperature parameter within transformer, the temperature of the winding must be measured. An indirect system is used to measure winding temperature, since it is dangerous to place a sensor close to winding due to the high voltage. Winding temperature of the transformer has been simulated using CT secondary current over the Top oil temperature. The indirect measurement is done by means of a built-in thermal image CT current is converted into thermal image inside the instrument and added to top oil temperature in same way instrument indicates corresponding winding temperature on front panel.
